Two vessels colided off Ijmuiden in stormy weather

On the last day of January two vessels colided off Ijmuiden.

 

Collision between bulk carrier Julietta D ( IMO 9590618) built 2013, GT 24196 and product tanker Pechora Star( IMO 9488332) built 2011, GT 8581 took place within Ijmuiden outer anchorage late morning 31 January 2022

According to report of Netherland coastgauard – Both vessels were at anchors and anchor of Julietta D failed to hold the vessel and she started to drift . It caused the collission with m/t Pechora Star . Julietta D has suffered severe damage and started to make water in engine room.

18 crewmembers were evacuated by SAR helicopters . The weather on the scene is strormy and it is reported the galeforce wind . Bulk carrier is drifting toward the shoreline, tugs and SAR vessel are ingaged in operation.

There is a possibility that abandoned vessel contacted to the offshore paltform OHVS HZB while drifting

There is no imminent danger for the second vessel. She is under control and no flooding is reported.

Salvage operation is in progress. Salvage contracts agreed

Insurance comments: It is too early to assess any financial consequenses of the accedent, however it looks to be complicated case.

Updated information : The vessel was successfully towed to the safe birth at port of Rotterdam 

Meantime Dutch police detained Master and the Chief mate of the Julietta D  for investiagtion whether it was reasonable to abandon the ship  or  not  .
